Bitcoin will reach a new all-time high in 2025 amid positive regulatory developments in the US under President Donald Trump’s recent inauguration, Binance CEO told CNBC on Tuesday.
Richard Teng, who took over the reins from former Binance chief Changpeng Zhao last year, told CNBC’s Arjun Harpal that he sees “much tighter regulation” in the U.S. this year under the new Trump administration, adding that it will help crypto markets.
“If you look at past cycles, this year will be the year we see a new all-time high for the crypto industry,” Teng said in a fireside chat at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Bitcoin broke the $100,000 mark for the first time last year as traders were optimistic about the crypto industry’s prospects under the Trump administration. As of Tuesday, the token was trading around $104,000, according to CoinGecko, down 3% in the past 24 hours amid a broad slide in crypto markets.
“The narrative (around cryptography) has changed quite dramatically” since last year, Teng added, noting that he has heard positive sentiment about cryptography from political and corporate leaders since arriving at Davos.
Regarding the new legislation, Ten said he expects progress in the United States in several areas, including token issuance, trading and asset management.
Trump is not the only key US political figure who is “pro-crypto,” Teng said, adding, “The House and Senate are now (compared to the past) pro-crypto.”
“So the legislation is passed, you have pro-crypto regulators appointed to key commissioner roles at the SEC and the CFTC,” Binance’s CEO said.
Trump has chosen respected Washington lawyer Paul Atkins to lead the Securities and Exchange Commission, which has previously been aggressive in its approach to the crypto industry.
Teng also expects Trump to give the crypto sector “confidence” and “recognition” and create a strategic bitcoin reserve in the US, something the current president proposed doing during his campaign.
