Austen Kroll he hasn’t always been successful in love, but he knows a thing or two about dating during the holidays.
Kroll, 37, began to see his current love, Audrey Prattduring last year’s cuffing season. As they celebrate a year together, Us Weekly asked the Southern Charm star for his tips for entering – and maintaining – a romance that begins during the cozy months.
The cuffing season and the holiday season refer to colder months when it is desirable to stick with someone special and be in a romantic relationship. According to Kroll, it’s a total “yes” to start finding a new person during the autumn and winter months.
However, the reality star has mixed feelings about whether the new partner should meet your parents in the holidays.
“How serious is this partner and how long have you been dating? Have you been dating for more than three months?” he asked. “Then you can introduce your partner to your family during the holidays.”
When it comes to giving gifts in a new relationship, Kroll admitted that it’s “not my love language” so he’s not the best person to ask.
“I’m terrible because I feel like jewelry is such a lame gift, but women love jewelry, right?” he inquired. “I don’t know. … are flowers, like, a lame gift? Yes.” Kroll said, when in doubt, turn to “girl friends” to help find the perfect gift.
Although gifts are not his area of expertise, Kroll was confident about another cuffing season faux pas.
“If you’re on the fence about the relationship, you probably wait until after Christmas and the new year (to break up),” Kroll told Us. “That would be cruel to break up with someone right before Christmas.”
He also advised against “pre-calling because you don’t have a date” for a holiday bash, calling it a total “don’t.” If an ex calls you to be an extra for a Christmas affair, Kroll said it’s “dealer’s choice.”
However, he aired on the side of caution and reminded Us“They’re exes for a reason,” so maybe don’t pick up the phone.
No matter what stage of romance you’re experiencing, Kroll said that holiday movie dates or individual opinion is essential.
“My favorite holiday rom-com to watch by the fire during the holidays right now is The Holidays,” he shared. “I’ve seen it twice already in December.”
Southern Charm airs on Bravo Thursdays at 9 pm ET.
