After nine years of career with the Capitals of Delhi in the Indian Premier League (IPL)star goalkeeper beater Rishabh pants it was finally released by the Capitals ahead of the mega auction for IPL 2025. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)a relative newcomer to the IPL snapped up Pant and acquired him for a record fee of Rs 27 crore. However, the whole process of this mammoth signature was not as simple as it seems. Pant himself was surrounded by thoughts and reservations ahead of the auction as he revealed which franchise he thought would actually buy him for the season.
In a special discussion, the owner of LSG Sanjiv Goenka announced that Pant would be their new captain for the next season. The franchise was previously led by KL Rahul before he was released after a disappointing end to his previous campaign under him. Pant will now lead an LSG team in IPL 2025 that is star-studded with the presence of David Miller, Nicholas Pooran, Mayank Yadav, Aiden Markram and many others.
However, it was during this announcement that Pant revealed what his thoughts were before the mega auction. According to Pant, he speculated with the two teams who would go for the explosive 27-year-old batsman and his guess was not far from the truth.
“Mereko andar se ek hi tension tha, woh tha Punjab (had only one tension from within and that was Punjab). The second highest (bag) was 82 million. Punjab had 112 million. When Shreyas (Iyer ) went there, I thought I could go to LSG. I thought there might be a chance.” Pant said during a chat with Star Sports.
Also in his discussion with HotstarPant also spoke about his feelings after being named LSG skipper ahead of the new seasons and expressed his level of commitment to the franchise.
“Unbelievable. Right now, I have only one word: I’m overwhelmed. As a player, when your owner walks with you in this way and helps you, your level of trust and commitment will reach 200%. Added the new LSG pattern.
LSG owner Goenka also spoke about the build-up to the moment before acquiring Pant for LSG, and also spoke about the confidence level he had in his mind to get the star batsman from goalkeeper of his team.
“I wanted to get Rishabh Pant, that was the end point. I didn’t care about other people and their opinions about which team wanted Pant. I was sure I wanted to get Rishabh Pant and I knew nobody could match my bid. I was never stressed . But we wanted Rishabh at any cost, regardless of the price.” Goenka said.
