Shakur Stevenson’s strategic move to catch Tank Davis

Shakur Stevenson sent a message today, letting ‘The Face of Boxing’ Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis know he won’t be playing A-side games and he knows he’s the Face B in negotiations with him. Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) says he just wants to fight.

This is a strategic move by WBC Lightweight Champion Shakur. He tells the media that he is not looking to get one “50-50” deal, and he knows it’s the B-side. Shakur is trying to catch Tank Davis making him look weak in the eyes of fans and the media.

Stevenson is trying to get the fans and the media to help pressure Gervonta into embarrassing him in a fight. It’s a clever trick, but it shows Shakur’s desperation to get the unification and, more importantly, the payday.

In the same interview, Stevenson had this to say about Tank: “That’s the fight it will pay me a lot.” He had been asked if he would be interested in fighting his friend, Keyshawn Davis, but said he’s focused on Tank Davis because he’ll pay him “a lot.”

That’s why Shakur has been chasing Gervonta night and day to fight. He wants the payday and he won’t see the same kind of money fighting anyone else at lightweight. Also, he could be beaten if he faced someone with power that could reach his chin. All of Shakur’s talk about wanting to fight Tank Davis to prove who’s the best when the reality is that he just sees him as someone to give him a big payday.

That’s why he’s in such a hurry and he’s done it been chasing Gervonta non-stop to fight since 2023. He wants the money and he is not willing to earn it by fighting Edwin De Los Santos or facing his friend, Keyshawn Davis or Andy Cruz. Instead of winning the Tank Davis fight, Shakur has been using the 24 hours a day method of calling him at every interview to push him.

“I’m not going to act like I’m the A team or I deserve a 50-50. Let’s negotiate. Let’s see where it goes from here,” Shakur Stevenson said on Shawn Porter’s YouTube placeletting Gervonta Davis know he won’t try to get the upper hand in negotiations for a fight. “I know I’m the B-side, but we battle,” Stevenson said of Tank Davis.
