Australia The national cricket team has received a huge boost ahead of the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka National Cricket Team. Opening batsman Steve Smith has been given the green signal by the specialist to take part in the series against the island nation.
The Australian National Cricket Team is all set to lock horns with the Sri Lankan National Cricket Team in the two-match Test series. The series between the teams will begin on January 29, followed by the second game of the series to be played starting on February 6. Both the matches will be played at the Galle International Stadium in Galle.
Just days before the series, Australia’s national cricket team faced a major setback when Steve Smith was injured while playing in the Big Bash League. The batsman injured his right elbow and there were many doubts about his availability for the Sri Lanka Tests.
Many reports even suggested that Steve Smith will miss the series due to the injury. But a couple of days ago, Cricket Australia issued a statement about the batsman, saying it would consult a specialist before the management took any call regarding his availability.
Smith also did not travel with the Australian national cricket team to his training camp in Dubai ahead of the two-match series against the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team. It was learned that he was going to see the doctor first before boarding the flight to Australia.
The batsman, however, has now visited the doctor, who cleaned the injury. He will soon travel to Dubai for the training camp ahead of the series. However, he will not bat immediately and will do so later in the week.
Cricket Australia released the official statement on the batsman, saying: “Steve Smith today underwent a specialist medical review following the right elbow injury sustained during the Big Bash League.
“He has been cleared to rejoin the Test squad and travel to Dubai. Smith is expected to return to bat later in the week to begin his preparation for the first Test against Sri Lanka.”
