President Joe Biden pardons were issued on Monday Dr. Anthony Fauci, gen. Mark Milleymembers of Congress who investigated Capitol riot on January 6 and others who he said are at risk of being “unreasonably” targeted for political purposes.

A series of preventive pardons took place a few hours before the election of the president Donald Trump — who challenged some of his political opponents go to jail – takes office.

“These public servants have served our nation with honor and distinction and do not deserve to be the targets of an unwarranted and politically motivated prosecution,” Biden said in a press release.

“I believe in the rule of law and am optimistic that the strength of our legal institutions will ultimately prevail over politics. But these are exceptional circumstances, and I cannot do anything with a clear conscience,” he said.

Biden’s statement emphasized that the pardon “should not be mistaken for an admission that any person has committed any wrongdoing, nor should the acceptance of a pardon be construed as an admission of guilt for any wrongdoing.”

Biden also said that he would pardon the staff who were part of the special committee of the House of Representatives on January 6 and the police officers who testified before him.

Fauci headed the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and was the face of the US response to the deadly coronavirus pandemic that began under Trump in early 2020. Milley served as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff starting in 2019, also under Trump.

Both figures eventually became pariahs for Trump and his supporters.

Trump and Fauci have been at loggerheads since before the November 2020 election, when the then-president backed away from health care restrictions that Fauci and other experts had advocated.

Trump in 2023 Milly accused treason after it emerged that he called Chinese officials in the final days of the Trump administration to reassure them of US political and military stability. My dear defended this appeal.

“My family and I are deeply grateful for the president’s actions today,” Milley said in a statement later Monday morning.

“After forty-three years of faithful service to our country in uniform, defending and defending the Constitution, I do not wish to waste the remaining time the Lord has given me fighting those who may unfairly seek retribution for perceived insults,” he said.
