Sajid lived up to his promise, taking a crucial five-wicket haul to help the hosts successfully defend a target of 251 runs in the opener of the two-match Test series. The ex-spinner’s stellar performance dismantled the West Indies batting line-up as the tourists could only manage 123 runs, and the hosts cruised to a one-sided victory in the Multan Test on Sunday.
Pakistan Cricket shared a video on its official X-handle, where Sajid Khan can be seen doing his famous celebration while being joined by captain Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam. Meanwhile, Sajid Khan was named Player of the Match for his impressive nine wickets in two innings in the first Test against the West Indies. He also admitted that it was a spin-friendly pitch, providing ample spin and bounce, and the spinners took advantage of that effectively at the Multan Cricket Stadium.
Sajid said in the post-match presentation: “The wicket had a lot of spin and bounce. The spin bowling coach spoke to me and in the second innings I bowled a bit slower and didn’t leak too many runs, as I conceded runs later in the spell in the first innings.
Nauman Ali talks to me a lot as he has a lot of experience. We didn’t want to give up runs in the second inning, and that was great. I wanted to bat well. But I hit it from the inside out, and it didn’t come out. Obviously, the shot was not on this ground (smiles).
Notably, Sajid has crossed the milestone of 50 Test wickets for Pakistan in just his 11th match. He reached the milestone at an average of 27.73, and has three four-wicket hauls and four five-wicket hauls to his name so far in the longest format of the game.
In six Tests at home, Sajid has claimed 34 wickets at an average of 31.03, including three five-wicket hauls, while he has picked up 21 wickets at an outstanding average of 22.71 in five Tests away from home. Moreover, Sajid has an impressive record in first-class cricket, with 294 wickets to his name.
