Serhii Bohachuk has offered to be the next Challenger to WBC and WBO Junior Middleweight Champion Sebastian Fundora for his next fight in March. Fundora (21-1-1, 13 KOs) has had two of his options for his next fight rejected by the World Boxing Organization in the last week.
Initially, Fundora had planned to defend against Errol Spence (28-1, 22 KOs), but the WBO chose not to sanction the fight. His reasons were that Spence hadn’t fought in 1.5 years. after a loss he had never wrestled at 154, and was not ranked in the top 15 of the WBO.
Team Fundora reportedly wanted to use Joey Spencer (19-1, 11 KOs), but he wasn’t ranked in the top 15 either, so he wasn’t a good matchup.
Former WBC 154-pound interim champion Bohachuk is ranked No. 8 by the WBO, which would make him perfect for Fundora to use as an opponent for their March 30 fight. The only problem is that Fundora management may not want to use Bohachuk (25-2, 24 KOs), because he is dangerous.
While Fundora showed he could beat a slugger in Tim Tszyu last year, it’s a different story with Bohachuk. He’s not someone who charges with individual shots like Tszyu does. He throws consistent punches the same way Artur Beterbiev does, and he’s good at fighting on the inside. It can generate a lot of power inside. Tszyu could not do this.
If Team Fundora wants to move up the WBO top 15 contender list, they might not like Sebastian fighting someone like Charles Conwell or Xander Zayas. It’s two fights, just like it would be if he fought Bohachuk.
If Fundora thinks he’s ready, he should fight Bohachuk because he’s free and offers to fight him. That’s half the battle.
Sebastià let’s fight the
