Ryan Reynolds Buys Another Football Team Amid Justin Baldoni’s Cuteness

Ryan Reynolds is expanding his football empire!

The Deadpool and Wolverine star and his Co-owner of Wrexham Football Club, Rob McElhenneywere named on Thursday, January 16, among a group of investors set to take over the top Colombian team, Club Deportivo La Equidad Seguros.

Back Bloomberg a ESPNthe group of investors is led by a real estate investor Al Tylis and football executive Sam Porterwho both own a stake in Mexican soccer team Necaxa. Other investors include an actress Eva Longoriasuper model Kate Upton and Upton’s husband, an MLB pitcher Justin Verlander.

“We welcome Al Tylis and Sam Porter, who arrive with a clear, long-term vision to continue to strengthen our club,” La Equidad shared in a statement via X on Thursday. “This is the first step towards a future full of opportunities.”

“Not only do Al Tylis and Sam Porter have extensive experience in the world of sports but they also have the support of recognized figures such as Eva Longoria, Rob McElhenney, Ryan Reynolds, Justin Verlander, Kate Upton, Shawn Marion a Scott Gallowaythe,” the statement continued.

Reynolds, 48, and McElhenney, 47, take ownership of the Wrexham Wales team in 2021, helping the club achieve global visibility thanks in part to its FX docuseries, Welcome to Wrexham. Tylis bought a small stake in Wrexham in April 2024, while Reynolds and McElhenney invest in NecaxaBloomberg reported.

News of Reynolds’ latest investment came the the same day he was named as a defendant in a $400 million lawsuit filed by Justin Baldonihis wife Blake Lively‘s It Ends With Us costar and director.

According to the filing obtained from Us Weekly on ThursdayBaldoni, 40, accuses Lively, 37, Reynolds, and Lively’s publicist, Leslie Sloaneof civil extortion, defamation, false light invasion of privacy and other claims. In the suit, Baldoni claimed he was pressured by Reynolds and “megacelebrity friend” of Lively’s to accept the actress’ changes to the film’s script.

Justin Baldoni’s legal battle with It Ends With Us costar Blake Lively continues with a brand new explosive lawsuit. Us reached out to Lively’s rep, co-defendant Sloane, for comment Thursday but did not hear back.
