The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025the world’s premier women’s T20 cricket tournament, is all set to deliver another electrifying season.
The season will begin on February 14 with a great clash between the reigning champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) i Gujarat Giants (GG). The opening match will take place at the newly constructed BCA Stadium in Vadodara, ushering in a season that promises new benchmarks for women’s cricket.
For the first time in the history of the WPL, the tournament will be played across four venues – Vadodara, Bengaluru, Lucknow and Mumbai, marking a significant expansion from previous editions. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the long-awaited schedule on January 16, detailing a total of 22 matches in this third edition.
The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 will be played at four iconic venues, each contributing to the tournament’s vibrant schedule. The state-of-the-art Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara will serve as the opening venue and host the first six matches, including the curtain-raiser between Gujarat Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru on February 14. Bengaluru’s iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium will take center stage. , hosting the next eight games, the most among the four selected venues.
This stretch will include crucial matches with defending champions RCB, promising high-energy contests at one of India’s most storied cricket grounds. Lucknow, making its debut as a WPL venue, has four group stage matches. This marks a major milestone in the tournament’s history, bringing top-class women’s cricket action to the city for the first time. Finally, Mumbai will play a pivotal role in the latter stages of the tournament. The city will host two matches of the league stage and the two qualifiers at the prestigious Cricket Club of India (CCI).
The playoff format remains unchanged from the previous season. The team that finishes at the top of the league standings will secure direct entry to the final. Meanwhile, the second and third placed teams will face off in the Eliminator on March 13, fighting for a place in the grand final scheduled for March 15. This structure ensures that each match carries weight, making the league stage very competitive.
Following the success of the single-header format, WPL 2025 will see all 22 matches played as stand-alone events. This approach ensures uninterrupted focus on every game, maximizing audience engagement both in stadiums and on broadcast platforms.
