Matovac is now “improving well and on the path to full recovery.”
“While Carolina is still working through her rehabilitation to return to being with me in Buffalo, she has shown an incredible determination, spirit, positivity and resilience I am in fear,” said the statement. “This has undoubtedly been the most challenging chapter of our lives, however it is something we have learned so much.”
Sabers fans and NHL community flowed with good wishes for Dahlin and Matovac.
“Pray for a fast and healthy recovery to Carolina, and strong thinking and peace to Race ♥ ️,” wrote one fan.
Another said, “This gave me a cold reading. For shock to read. Unconditionally scary. Send Carolina all the healing and positive thoughts as their recovery continues and for grace and their families as they supported her.”
American tennis star Jessica Peguladaughter of the owner of Sabers Terry pegulahave commented with three heart hands emojis.
“The family of the flames send our thoughts and wisdom to Carolina and Rasmus 💙,” Calgary flames wrote the NHL.
Dahlin, 25, and Matovac, both natives of Sweden, have been dating for over six years, although it is unclear when the couple said.
“Five years of love you ❤️,” posted Matovac by Instagram in June 2024.
In a celebration birthday post earlier this year, Matovac suggested that she and Dahlin were friends long before they started dating.
“Cheers spent to 25 years and a decade celebrating together! 🎂🎈,” she shared by Instagram in August. “Can’t want better birthday twins.”
Dahlin was selected with the General Selection No. 1 in the 2018 NHL draft draft by the Sabers and has spent all seven of his NHL season with the team.
In October 2023, an eight -year contract extension signed $ 88 million with the organization. Dahlin was named the captain of the Sabers before the 2024 season.
Years into Dahlin’s time with the Sabers, Matovac admitted she was looking to find a “purpose,” which led her to start working at Gigi’s Playhouse, a downward syndrome achievement center in Buffalo.
