Ex-patron of England, Joe Root, recently participated in a “this or” challenge that involved several large batters of all time. Root, known as one of the biggest batters of the current cricket, chose the legend Sachin tendulkar as the best baptism among the great cricketers of all time during the challenge.
The batter on the right was last seen in action during the recent series of three games against South Africa at home. He scored 175 runs in three games with an average of 58.33 and a strike rate of 94.59, including 100 in the final game. However, the team led by Harry Brook suffered a 1-2 defeat against the proteins.

Joe Root recently participated in a “this or this” challenge with the Barmy army, where he was asked to choose from the cricket grains in a format of “kept winners”.

Root chose Steve Smith in the initial round. The former England pattern is a member of the “Fab Four” next to Smith, turned Kohli and Kane Williamson. Root and Smith scored every 10,000 runs in the longest format, while Kohli retired from the test cricket in May 2025.
In the next round, Root chose the former Australian Captain Ricky laying on Smith. However, it was turned away when the legendary South African of Jacques Kallis was presented.

In the following rounds of the challenge, Joe Root chose Jacques Kallis about legends such as Alastair Cook, Kumar Sangakkara and Brian Lara. The root opted for the Indian battle icon Sachin tendulkar on Kallis on the penultimate round.
The 34 -year -old batter was asked to choose between Tendulkar and Virat Kohli in the final round. After a brief pause, Root called the winner of the challenge “this or that.”

Tendulkar maintains the record of most international cricket runs. Scored 34,357 runs and 100 centuries between formats. Wanted Kohli is in the third part of the list of scorers of all time with 27,599 runs and 82 centuries. Joe Root has scored 21,737 runs in the three formats.

During the recent Testing series against India, Joe Root became the second highest scorer in test matches. In an interview with BBC Sport, Root said that he had admired Sachin tending since childhood and grew up learning and looking towards him.
“He debuted his test before he was born. To play on the same field as he, to have the opportunity to play against him, was incredibly fantastic. It was someone I grew up seeing, admiring and trying to learn,” Root said (through India today).
Tendulkar is the top scorer of the test cricket. He scored 15,921 races between 200 games. Root has scored 13,543 runs of 158 tests, only 2,378 shy throws of the Record of Tendulkar. It is expected that it will continue to play for a few more years and can overcome the milestone of tendulkar.
