Newcastle Manager Eddie Howe greeted his team’s “Gutsy view” after the Magpies fell to the 2-1 defeat against Barcelona at Champions League in St James Park on Thursday.
Marcus Rashford, on loan to Barça from Manchester United, scored an excellent strip of the second half before Anthony Gordon retired to what he was An exciting encounter in Tyneside.
Gordon’s strike, in the end, turned out to be little more than consolation, but for great spells, the hosts surpassed their Catalan opponents, who lacked the Teenage Star Yamal Yamal by injury.
And the head of Magpies rushed to recognize the efforts of his players, but added that these occasions are only really special with a victory.
“I think we were really in the game, I didn’t feel like we were ever out,” Howe told TNT Sports.
“I am disappointed that he did not score the first goal of the game, I think it was crucial tonight, in the reflection and we had the possibilities of doing it in the first half.
“I thought it was a truly heart and strong exhibition, maybe I was lacking in quality to win.
“When the dust is installed, we will look differently with the performance. I think it was a good performance, it was a strong effort, but these nights are only magical if you win.
“But I think we will learn and grow our game in nights like this.”
The next to Newcastle is a trip to Bournemouth to the Premier League on Sunday before hosting the city of Bradford in the third round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday.
