Now Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), International Cricket Council (ICC) and party referee, Andy Pycroft, are at the center of this infamous saga. It all started on September 15, when the PCB sent their first email to the ICC.

They stated that the code of conduct was not followed during the launch, as the Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav and the Pakistani captain Salman Ali Agha did not shake hands. The PCB directly questioned the role of Andy Pycroft, as he asked Salman Ali Agha not to shake hands with Suryakumar Yadav.

PCB to war with ICC Over Asia Cup 2025 Drama

The ICC immediately did its own review and replied that Pycroft had not done anything wrong. The governing body explained that Pycroft only followed the instructions of Asian Cricket Council (ACC), which is actually headed by PCB President Mohsin Naqvi.

The ICC even said that Pycroft managed the moment smartly and made sure that no uncomfortable situation was displayed on live television. But the PCB was not happy with this answer. They took a step further and demanded that Pycroft be retired from Pakistan’s party officer in the Asia Cup 2025.

In order to make things more heated, they even threatened that Pakistan retired from the tournament if his demand was ignored. Well, the ICC remained strong and made it clear that Pycroft had not violated any rules and that officials could not be changed only because a team was not satisfied.

Then, on September 17, the drama in hand took a new turn. The PCB sent another email with new claims. During the first two days, all of your complaints were about launch. But now, they claimed that there were violations during and after the game, also re -guided Pycroft.

In response to Pakistan’s new allegations, the CPI asked them to share appropriate evidence to support their claims that there were offenses during and after the group’s party between India and Pakistan. But the PCB has not sent anything concrete to the ICC so far.

The ICC still hopes the PCB tests that can prove its claims against Pycroft, with Mohsin Naqvi keeping their lips adjusted to it.

In the meantime, just before Pakistan’s game against the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan Board prevented the team from going on the bus to the stadium at the last moment. This caused hours of conversations back and forth between the PCB, ICC and ACC, and the game delayed almost an hour.

PCB President Mohsin Naqvi and Coo Salman Naseer represented Pakistan, while his new CEO, Sanjog Gupta, was managed during these heated discussions. Gupta made it clear that, without evidence, there was no reason to eliminate Pycroft and the ICC would not compromise its standards.

In the end, the threats of the PCB did not work. His demand to eliminate Pycroft was rejected, his retirement warning was reduced and the party referee continues to formalize the continental event matches. The ICC remained firm and assured that the rules did not bend under the pressure.
