US Secretary of State Mark Rubio meets with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem, and after the Israeli strike in Qatar, it is expected to be high on the agenda.
Last week, a strike, which aimed at Hamas’s senior leaders in the nearby US ally, has caused international indignation and was criticized by President Donald Trump.
Rubio had previously said: “Obviously, we are not glad. The president was not satisfied with this. Now we needed to move forward and find out what will happen next.”
The meeting takes place when Arab leaders hold a summit in a demonstration of Qatar. Its Prime Minister called on the international community to stop using “double standards” and punish Israel.
The Gulf state pursues the main American air base and played a key role in brokerage diplomatic efforts to stop the war in the gas, fulfilling the duties of an indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel.
On Sunday, Netanyahu told reporters that the US and Israel’s relations were as “durable as stones on the Western Wall”, while he and Rubio appealed to a brief visit to the holidays in the old city of Jerusalem.
During the visit – during which they accompanied the US Ambassador to Israel Mike Hakabi, Rubio wrote a note and put it in the wall. Both men ignored journalists’ questions, focusing on Israel’s strike in Qatar.
Israeli military plans are also expected to seize the city of Gaza and further expansion of Israel’s settlements on the occupied West Bank between Purims.
Last weekend, the Israeli military went forward with the demolition of residential buildings in Gaza, and – according to Israeli media, now ready to start ground operations in the western regions of the city.
The Israeli military demanded that Gaza residents leave and head south to the central region. About 250,000 Palestinians estimate that hundreds of thousands remain in the area.
Some residents they cannot allow to go south and others say that Southern gas is not safe because Israel also struck there. Some say they tried to go south but couldn’t get the tents, so they returned to Gaza.
Next week, the meeting is ahead of the UN General Assembly, at which some leading US allies – including the UK, France, Canada, Australia and Belgium – must recognize the staff of Palestine.
