Shapiro and the leading “Real Time” discussed the Bible as part of a broader talk about Shapiro’s new book “Lions and Figure”. He quotes the second action 30:19: “Choose life so that you and your children can live,” and said it was the main faith of Judaism.
When Shapiro said Mahaer that he was not going to try to make him believe in the Torah, Maher launched anti -religious criticism. Shapiro expressed against the fact that the Bible provided a moral foundation not only for him, as a religious Jew, but also for Mahera, atheist.
“Bill, we agree with the moral, I would say at least 87 percent,” Shapiro said.
“Moral … But not from the Bible,” Maher interrupted.
“Why do we agree with the morality like 87.5 percent? I am a religious Jew, you atheist – why do we agree with these things?” Shapiro asked. “We probably grew up a few miles apart in Western society, which is behind it for several thousand years of biblical history. So, you might think that you got into this triple and formed your own morality, but the reality is that you were born morally on the third base.”
When Shapiro completed, the audience broke out with laughter and applause. Maher replied that Western society received its morality from the Enlightenment, which, he said, was anti -religious. He claimed that the parents of the founders of America were not “especially Christie”, while Shapiro noted that Thomas Jefferson made a version of the Bible, focused on morality with remote miracles.
