The biggest reveal from last week’s Samsung CES press conference may have been another press conference. The hardware giant closed the main event for jokes the company’s next show. The next Samsung Unpacked event is set for January 22nd at 10am PT.
As with all recent Unpackeds, next week’s big show will be broadcast live Samsung’s websiteand also of the company YouTube channel.
Samsung is so excited to get pre-orders flowing in early that reservations before the event come with a $50 Samsung store credit. You can find all the fine print on it above here.
That, of course, absolute slam dunk for the event is the line Galaxy S25. Since breaking CES/MWC for its mobile announcements, the company has developed a twice-a-year cadence for flagship releases. We have the Galaxy S series around January/February, followed by new foldables during the summer.
The line should include three key models: S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra, the last of which is the product of the S line that absorbs the Galaxy Note as its largest and most premium device. As usual, the beginning of the event was peppered with leaks, returns and cases. The latter gives us a general sense of dimensions for the line, as they are built to specifications submitted by Samsung to the manufacturer.
The lion’s share of the rumors indicate that the S25 looks a lot like its predecessor. The biggest change on the hardware front is a slimmer design. The rumors published this week point to Samsung shaving from 1 to 2 millimeters from the profile of the device. Another almost certain rumor is the inclusion of the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip that Qualcomm unveiled in Hawaii last October.
The usual caveat to this is that there is always some processor variation in international markets. Here in the States, however, it’s pretty much a done deal.
The Galaxy AI will, of course, be the center of attention, since Samsung seems not only to present itself as a leader in the category, but also to differentiate its offer from the Google Gemini functions that will be available on the Android devices. Of course, last year’s big AI announcement was Circle to searcha Google feature that first launched on the S24.
Other possible – but significantly less certain – reveals include a successor to the lukewarmly received wearable Galaxy Ring and a closer look. Project Moohanan extended reality headset that is developed in conjunction with Google.
