Charlie Bartlett Type of feeling as a predecessor to Netflix series Sex education -Just like the popular show, the film follows an awkward but bright teenage girl who becomes an amateur therapist for his classmates, learning about himself and making connections with his fellow students.
Unlike Otis’s Sex educationHowever Charlie Bartlett (Anton Yelchin) Provides additional service to his peers – he visits different psychiatrists and falsifies the symptoms that plagues them for prescriptions, which he then distributes among the high schools.
As you would imagine, this brings many complications. Charlie Bartlett Exploring Charlie’s own mental health issues, especially his complex relationship with his father, who has been imprisoned. The film deviates into the complications of teenage emotions, never simplifies or reduces them.

As you may remember, Russian-American actor Anton Yelchin was a star on the rise with roles in movies like Star Trek, When the car accident broke his life tragically. See his charming performance Charlie BartlettWas one of his retiring roles, having an additional emotional effect following his death.
One of the other major cast members is Robert Downey Jr.., which plays the principle of Charlie High School alcoholic. Downey also has a poignant connection with the material – he was famous struggling with drug and alcohol addiction as a teenager and a young adult. Downey was still in the process of reincarnating his career at the time of the film after becoming sober in 2001. Charlie Bartlett came out only a year before IronWould change the downey trajectory forever.
Knowing where the two talented actors in the end make their on -screen matching in this film about mental health and a second chance feels particularly bitter.
Talented cast Charlie Bartlett also features Kat Dennings and Davis’s hope.

With its themes of mental health, teenager and complex parent-child relationships, Charlie Bartlett feels like a homage to John Hughes Movies like Ferris Bueller’s day off or The breakfast club. Yelchin is definitely similar to young Matthew Broderick. From his preppy look, handsome to his quippy charm. Other 80s movies also get their minutes – there’s a scene where Charlie hits her in a jacket and boxers who feel reminded of the iconic scene “Old Time Rock and Roll” Dangerous Businesstogether with direct references to Harold and Maude.
If you love those movies but have not seen Charlie BartlettYou miss out on a loving tribute that conveys that same combination of whim and pathos.
