Memphis in Tennessee will be the next city in the United States, where Donald Trump sends troops to the National Guard as part of its constant repression in cities under the leadership of the Democrats.
The US president issued a statement during a broad interview on Fox News on Friday, and claimed that the mayor, the Democrat, was “happy” about this decision, as well as the governor of the state.
Deployment in Memphis mark an escalation in the use of Trump troops and comes approximately a month after he sent the National Guard on Washington Street.
Memphis has one of the highest crimes in the US, shows 2,501 violent crimes per 100,000, according to FBI.
“We’re going to Memphis,” Trump said, not giving details when the troops arrive. “Memphis is deeply concerned.”
He added that he also wanted to reduce the crime in the new Orleans, Baltimore and Chicago.
The country thinks for weeks whether it will deploy troops in Chicago, as its operation on immigration “in the middle of the blitz” is increasing.
On Friday, Trump seemed to have shown that he had decided to send the National Guard to Memphis instead of the Medium Western city, saying: “I would like to go to Chicago.”
But Memphis Mayor Paul Young said the press conference on Friday afternoon: “I want to be clear, I did not ask the National Guard and I don’t think this is a way to reduce the crime, but this decision was made.”
He said his goal was to make sure that the deployment happened strategically, that “it is really profitable and strengthened our community.”
Earlier this week, Young released a statement stating that he was negotiating with the Trump administration on attracting federal support for the city police department.
“We most need financial resources to intervene and prevention, additional patrol staff and supporting cases to strengthen the investigation,” Young said.
“Memphis is already making progress in reducing crimes, and we support the initiatives that help accelerate the pace of work that our officers, public partners and residents do every day.”
On August 11, Trump claimed responsibility for the Washington Police Department (MPD) and activated the National Guard.
The absorption was valid for 30 days that ended earlier this week.
At this time, hundreds of arrests were done, the White House said, and Trump said DC now “has virtually no crimes”.
Despite this, it is assumed that the troops will remain in the country’s capital in the foreseeable future, and many can be seen in the city, helping in garbage and mulching.
The use of the National Guard to support law enforcement agencies is subject to legal experts, some concerned about the use of military against civilians.
The court recently found the deployment of Trump in the National Guard troops for Los -Angeles earlier this year illegallyBut she said that the ruling does not apply to the deployment of troops elsewhere.
