A disgraceful male feminist joss has finally been replaced, like the king of the nerds

I have recently been watching everything created by James Gunn, of older things like Slider to the newer chapters of Pacifist. As I re -watch SupermanThe excellent first movie for the DCU, it happened to me that I watched more than The Man of Steel defeating Lex Luthor. I was also watching Gunn tuning before -Marvel and DC director Joss Whedon, as beloved King of the Nerds.

Back in 2012 Joss Whedon directed The avengersA critical and commercial cutting hit that brought full ensemble storytelling to the MCU. Really felt like Whedon’s life had been leading to this, as he paired his fame as a creator Buffy The Vampire Slayer into a new career as director of a high power superhero. Went on to direct The avengers: Ultron age and The Alliance of JusticeBut in effect, arguments with that DC film and Whedon’s personal life ended with a career that seemed to have nowhere to go but up.

The accusations against Joss Whedon

As for the Avenger The personal life of the director, his ex-wife Kai Cole blog post in 2017 claimed that Whedon had slept with actresses from Puff and other productions he worked on; He did not name names, but his post (along with things like a crazy misogynistan whedon Wonder Woman TV pilot script) has hurt Whedon’s reputation as a high, proud male feminist. Have The Alliance of Justice star Ray Fisher And Gal Gadot claimed that Whedon was abused on a set, his former Puff and Angel Star Charisma Carpenter claimed that Whedon was cruel to her on a set, calling her fat and questioning whether she would keep the baby after she conceived.

Carpenter was supported by former posters as Sarah Michelle GellarDavid Boreanaz, and the late Michelle Trachtenberg, who went on to claim that Whedon was not allowed to be alone with her (she was only 14 when she joined Puff). Together, all this sank Whedon’s career even as she donated his reputation, making the promising feminist appear as a misogynist. At the same time this happened, though, Whedon was slowly replaced James Gunn.

James Gunn’s Progress

When Puff wrapped up, Gunn was a growing star in Hollywood, writing the scripts for both The gift of the dead Re-do and the living action Scooby-doo Movies. Made his first appearance as director in 2006 with SliderA popular horror movie starring Whedon’s golden boy Nathan Fillion. Gunn did some other work, including directing the satirical superhero SuperBut it is fair to say that he did not become the creator of a mainstream supermarket until his success Mcu Movie debut Guardians of the galaxy.

Have Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Proven to be very popular, Gunn was firmly established as one of the Coolest figures in Geek’s history. He had become a bit like Joss Whedon in the sense that his name was now synonymous with tasteful and cool work while remaining unnecessary nerdy.

But then faced the same challenge that whedon had faced: about a year after the Puff The creator’s wife wrote her destructive blog post, Gunn was fired by Disney After some of its old tweets out of a resurfacing re-pocket pocket.

How James Gunn recovered from cancellation

These days, even Gunn is the first to admit that he believes this debate is going to completely destroy his Hollywood career. But then something happened to the Guardian Guru never happened to Whedon: his former actors, along with a legion of celebrities, fans, and media outlets, began to publicly support him and criticize Disney for his decision to let the director go.

Gunn came back to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3but not before directing The suicide squad for Warner Bros. This laid the foundation for Gunn to eventually become co-chairman of DC Studios, and his first DCU film, Superman, prove to be very popular. And that success means that his former Marvel heads have to now worry about a popular competitive cinematic universe, even as the MCU is a search of high-profile failures such as The Thunderbolts and The Fantastic Four: First steps.

James Gunn has never claimed to be a champion of anything, except for good storytelling

Comparing their careers, I can help but notice that James Gunn had one thing that Joss Whedon apparently didn’t: almost everyone who worked with him before. Gunn repeatedly acknowledged the immaturity of his former provocative social media posts and apologized for them, but everyone generally understood that these were just words (although they were childish and offensive words).

Whedon wrote his own narrative and made himself look like a women’s champion. In the meantime, it is alleged that his publicly acceptable persona is hiding (according to his ex-wife and several former actors) in misogyny, cruelty and abuse on-set dark history.

That brings us to this day: Gunn’s career survived an attempt to cancel while Whedon’s whole career has faded quietly. And now, as the architect of the DCU, Gunn does for the movies of superheroes what even Whedon could not do at the height of his power and influence. Move over, Joss: You have been selected as king of the nerds.

Judging from how much fun that Gunn seems to be having, one thing remains clear. It’s good that the king!
