Jiri Balsanar sentenced to 27 years in prison for creating a coup in Brazil

Former Brazilian President Jiri Bolsonar was sentenced to 27 years and three months of imprisonment after being found guilty of a military coup.

The Board of Five Judges sentenced the former leader a few hours after they condemned the former leader.

They decided that he was guilty of heading the conspiracy aimed at preserving him in power after he lost his election in 2022 to his left rival Louise Inazio Lule.

Four of the judges found him guilty, and one voted for his excuse. Bolsonar’s lawyers called the sentence “inappropriately” and said they would submit “relevant appeals”.

The Supreme Court also banned him to run for a state post by 2033.

Bolsonar, who was put under house arrest after considered the risk of flight, did not participate in this final phase of the trial personally.

But in the past, he stated that he had been developed to prevent him from launching in the 2026 presidential election – although he was already banned from state positions on individual charges. He also called it a “witch hunt.”

His words previously responded to US President Donald Trump, who imposed 50% of the tariffs on Brazilian goods, based on their revenge for the persecution of Bolsonar.

Responding to the verdict of the guilty, Trump said he considered it “very strange” and compared it to his own experience: “It is very similar to what they tried to do with me. But they didn’t leave it at all.”

US Secretary of State Mark Rubio said the Supreme Court of Brazil “unfairly ruled in the prison of former President Jiri Balsanar” and threatened “to respond according to this witch hunt.”

The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded quickly, posing to X that “the threats, as today, made by US Secretary of State Mark Rubio, in a statement attacking Brazilian power and ignores the facts and convincing evidence that did not intimidate our democracy.”

Bolsonar, who is 70 years old, is now faced with the prospect of spending the rest of his life in prison.

His lawyers are expected to claim that he should be kept under house arrest, not to go to jail – as well as to act in less time.

They also stated that they would appeal his conviction, but legal experts said it could be difficult, as it is usually possible only if two of the five judges voted for justification.

Bolsonar was found guilty of five accusations concerning his attempt to cling to power after being beaten in the 2022 elections.

But the prosecutors stated that they began to think to remain in power long before, offering the coup by military commanders and sowing unreasonable doubts in the selective system.

They also said that the Balsanar knew about the plan for the attempted Lulu and his vice president who manages the partner, as well as the justice of the Supreme Court.

The judges found out that he had a plot and condemned seven co -authors, including senior military officers. Among them are two former defense ministers, a former spy chief and a former security minister.

While the plot was unable to enroll sufficient support for the military to go forward, on January 8, 2023, it ended with storming state buildings of Bolsonar, found out that the judges.

“We slowly forget that Brazil has almost returned to its 20-year dictatorship because the criminal organization, which consisted of a political group, does not know how to lose the election,” he said before throwing his voice.

The last story of Brazil and the decades he conducted under the military administration was also caused by the Justice Carmen Lussia, who made a decisive third vote “guilty” on Thursday.

She compared the coup attempt with the “virus”, which, if left to the gnater, could kill the society in which it entered.
