Emma Heming Willis Found new ways of communicating with husband Bruce Willis After his diagnosis dementia frontotemporal.
In her book, The unexpected journey: Find strength, hope, and yourself on the path of careHeming Willis, 49, details the effect the disease has had on her husband linguistically. (FTD’s most common symptoms include “battles with decision -making, moving, speaking or understanding of a language,” by the FRONTOTEMPORAL DEFENSE.)
“Because Bruce can’t communicate with me (because of the variant of FTD he has, basic progressive affasia), I have to make opinion calls about everything completely. I can’t ask him how he feels, what’s wrong or if something hurts,” Heming Willis wrote. “Instead, I read the language of his body or looked into his eyes to understand what is bothering him and what he is experiencing. I compare this to the instinct you have as a parent. With only one snapshot of your child, you can immediately say if something is not right. And with one look at Bruce, I can say whether his neck hurts or has a head.”
Primary progressive affasia “starts gradually, with speech or language symptoms that vary depending on brain areas affected by the disease,” according to the Weill Institute’s memory and aging center for the Weill organization.
The outlet states, in one type of variation, “People may have difficulty producing speech, but, in another variant, word detection and understanding problems are more apparent.”
Heming Willis revealed in August that Willis Live in a second home with a full -time care team like him is fighting the disease. Defended their live arrangement on Instagram and during appearance forward Good morning America on Tuesday, September 9.

Jon Kopaloff/Filmmagic“It was a hard decision for us, but it was the safest and best decision not only for Bruce but also for our two young women,” he said during the interview. “And, you know, it’s not really for debate. Now I know that Bruce has the best care 100 percent of the time. His needs are met 100 percent of the time, as well as our two young women. So I’m not going to take a vote on that.”
Heming Willis recently reflected on making the most of her time with Willis and continuing their love story.
“Bruce is very present in his body, and there is something so lovely and wonderful about that,” he told People on September 4. “He doesn’t think about what happened yesterday or what’s happening in the future. It’s a very foundation today.”
Added a sweet feeling: “Sometimes, Love does not require words. I can sit there with Bruce, and we look at each other and we laugh and smile and that is, for me, above all. “
