Diplomacy in ruins after Israel hit Hamas leaders in Qatar

CCTV records the moment of Israeli attack on Hamas leaders in Doha

Almost exactly a year ago, I interrogated the leader of Hamas and the chief negotiator Khalil al-hoi in Doha. I met him in a house near the building on which Israel was attacked on Tuesday afternoon.

Since the beginning of the war, the al-Haj was the main negotiator Hamas, sending and accepting reports of Israelis and Americans through Qatari and Egyptian intermediaries.

At the moment when the ceasefire was believed to be al-hai, along with men who were also aimed at this afternoon, were only a short distance from Israeli and US delegations. When they were attacked, al-hay and other major leaders Hamas discussed the latest US diplomatic proposals to stop the war in gas and release the rest of Israel.

Israel’s swift declaration that she did, immediately fueled on social media that the latest US proposals were just a unit to get Hamas’s leadership in one place where they could be aimed at.

On October 3 last year, when Khalil al-Haja entered the place for our meeting in a modest, low-rise villa, I was surprised that he had so little safety. We had to give up our phones, and a couple of guards came to the house with him.

Outside, the police officer was sitting in the SUV. That was all. One hundred bodyguards were unable to stop the air strike, but Al-Hay and his people were relaxed and confident.

The fact is that Qatar had to be safe and they felt safe enough to move relatively openly.

A few months earlier, on July 31, 2024, Israel, Zamail Hanya, was the political leader Hamas in Tehran, where he was present at the inauguration of President Masud Pescian.

With the war in Gaza raged, I wondered whether it could be dangerous to sit in the same room as Khalil al-Hay. But like him, I thought Qatar was going beyond.

In the last few decades, Qatar has tried to cut itself as a Switzerland of the Middle East, where even enemies could conclude transactions.

The Americans agreed with the Afghan Taliban in Doha. And two years since the attacks on October 7, 2023, Qatar became the center of diplomatic efforts to stop the fire and possibly the end of the war.

Peaceful efforts managed by President Trump’s Messenger Steve Witco were badly broken. But now they are in ruins. According to one senior Western diplomat, there is no diplomat.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Israeli that their enemies will never be able to sleep easily and pay the price for October 7.

The Israeli’s Israel is gathering a pace. A few hours before the attack on the Israeli service of Doha, IDF, told all the Palestinians in the city of Gaza to leave and move south. It is believed that something like a million civilians can affect.

In his television comments, Netanyahu told the Palestinians in Gaza: “They are not going out of these murderers. Set your rights and the future. Earn peace with us. Accept the proposal of President Trump. Don’t worry you can do this and we can promise you another future, but you must deprive it.

If the Palestinians in Gaza can hear his words, they will ring very hollow. Israel destroyed the houses of hundreds, as well as hospitals, universities and schools.

With the gas already passionate about the hunger, the hunger in the gas itself and the humanitarian catastrophe across the territory, the forced movement of even more people will only increase the death pressure of Israel on civilians.

Israel has already died in Gaza more than 60,000 Palestinians, most of whom were civilians. Netanyahu himself faces warrant for the arrest of the International Criminal Court for war crimes, and Israel is investigated by the International Genocide Court.

Attack in Doha is a sign that Netanyahu and its government will push forward as much as soon as all fronts, not just gas. They are convinced that with US support, their military can fulfill their will.

Doha’s attack earned a rare white house. Qatar is a valuable ally that conducts a huge US military base and is the main investor in the US.

But Netanyahu appears to estimate that Donald Trump, the only leader he feels that he has to listen, will be satisfied with the diplomatic equivalent of the rap over the bones.

The offensive part of Israel is ongoing. And, as the planned recognition of Palestinian independence in the UN in the end of this month from the UK, France, Canada, Australia and other Western countries, the ultra -nationalist allies of Netanyahu will double the calls to respond to the annexation of the occupied Palestinian territory in the west bank.
