India women’s team has written history in the 3rd and final ODI of the series against Ireland in many ways. But more importantly, it was a solid team display to claim a record win and assert their dominance over the Irish team. The team’s dominance was also shown as a glimpse of the kind of form the Indian team is in and the unbeaten run at home.
The match started with India winning the toss and electing to bat first. India’s innings got off to a good start with openers Smriti Mandhana i Pratika Rawal stormed the Irish bowlers and put together a momentous partnership that lasted 26.4 overs. The openers put together a mammoth 233-run partnership for the first wicket to provide India with the foundation for a mammoth total. Mandhana, the Indian team’s stand-in skipper wrote history by scoring the fastest century for Indian women’s cricket in ODI format in just 70 balls. The innings was star-studded with 12 boundaries and 7 sixes before being dismissed by Orla Prendergast.
But the Indian attack continued, Rawal and keeper Richa Ghosh he continued to tear apart the Irish bowlers and stormed to 337 runs with 13 overs remaining. Rawal impressed the cricket community with his impeccable shot selection and technique to play a knock of 154 runs off 129 balls.
The Indian innings closed with a mammoth 435 runs at the end of 50 overs with 6 wickets in hand. Medium order blender Jemimah Rodrigues i Deepti Sharma they were undefeated in the crease. This was the highest total by the Indian team in the ODI format and the fourth highest in the overall history of women’s cricket.
After the bowlers took a beating, it was time for the Irish batsmen to continue the horror show. The entire Irish batting order failed to make a mark in the match and fell like a pack of cards against the Indian team’s total. Sarah Forbes and Prendergast did try to put up some resistance but the counter-attack was short-lived.
Indian bowling also similarly impressed the batsmen. Spinner Deepti took 3 Irish wickets and gave away 27 runs. Tanuja Kanwar took 2 overs Sadhu tits, From him Mani i Sayali Satghare took 1 cover each.
