Mayim Bialik‘ guest spot on Melissa Rauch‘s Court of the Night very big attention to her time on The Big Bang Theory.
“It wasn’t in the first draft of the script but it was in the second draft. I just thought it was a really cute goal,” Bialik, 49, said exclusively Us Weekly for how Court of the Night find a way for her and Rauch, 44, to mention The Big Bang Theory.
During the Tuesday, January 14, episode of the NBC series, Bialik played an exaggerated version of herself and talked about it. past sitcom roles in conversation with Rauch’s character, Abby.
“You know, I’ve done a lot of things besides that Bloom. Call Me Kat a The Big Bang Theory,” Bialik said.
Rauch replied, “You were in that? I only remember the girl with the loud voice. It was great.”
Bialik loved the cheeky approach to her on-screen reunion with Rauch. “That’s part of the fun of comedy hopefully and the fun of being in that space where anything goes,” he added. “That’s the fun of a sitcom.”
The duo split screen on Court of the Night after originally being costars on The Big Bang Theory. The CBS sitcom, which aired between 2007 and 2019, starred Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg, Kunal NayyarBialik and Rauch as a group of friends that includes scientists and significant others.
After The Big Bang Theory ended, Bialik reunited with Parsons, 51, on chapter of Young Sheldon and he has now done the same with Rauch.
“When I think how long it’s been since then The Big Bang Theory over, this was a case of it feeling like it hasn’t been long at all. Because we’ve worked together for almost a decade, and you learn a lot of the person’s rhythms and a lot of their tendencies as a comedian,” the actress told us. “So I know how her brain works and she knows how my brain works. We had to create fun and have reaction shots that maybe weren’t written in the script. Those are things that she and I are used to each other It’s playful in that way.”
Bialik continued: “I know acting is a job, but it’s also a craft. Like when you think what it’s like to be in a school play, it’s kind of like that. Just, like, there are a lot of cameras. So you have that sense of play and creativity going on. we definitely have an ease with that because we did it together for so long.”
Court of the Night also reunited Bialik with John Larroquette after they were costars forward The John Larroquette Show in the ’90s.
“It was great to work with John again. But there is also some — I don’t want to say pressure — but I put pressure on myself because I want to be professional. I was working on Call Me Kat for three years but I haven’t been working on a regular sitcom at the moment,” he noted. “It’s a bit of wanting to be on my best behavior as a comedian and making sure I don’t forget my lines.”
Bialik said that “definitely fear” goes into the show, noting, “If I mess up, I don’t want John to think I’m unprofessional, and I probably don’t would do that. There is definitely some of that. … It was just a great ensemble to be a part of, and that’s what I’ve missed for being part of a group of people doing comedy that way.”
New episodes of Court of the Night air on NBC Tuesday Nights at 8:30 pm ET and are available to stream on Peacock the next day.
