Representatives of 76 clubs of the Dhaka Metropolis Cricket Committee (CCDM) have issued a stern ultimatum to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) over the proposed constitutional amendments. The BCB reform commission has prepared the changes with the aim of bringing about major improvements, but these efforts have caused a great deal of outrage among the clubs.
However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has yet to approve the constitutional amendments proposed by the reform committee, and club officials have said they will wait until January 17 to see if their demands and concerns are addressed by the board or not.
The following day, January 18, club officials will meet with BCB president Faruque Ahmed to discuss their concerns. If no resolution emerges, they will pull out of the Dhaka-based cricket club entirely, potentially affecting the careers and livelihoods of nearly 2,000 cricketers in Bangladesh.
In fact, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has recently formed a five-member committee to reform its constitution. This committee is headed by BCB director Nazmul Abedin with Saiful Islam, the personal secretary to the president of the National Sports Council, as the member secretary. Other members include Kamruzzaman, BCB’s legal advisor; Supreme Court Advocate, Advocate Shyikh Mahdi; and AKM Azad Hossain.
The BCB’s five-member reform committee, led by Nazmul Abedin, has proposed major changes, including the total dissolution of the CCDM, the reduction of the number of Category 2 directors on the BCB General Council, the reduction of club representation based in Dhaka from 12 to 12 directors. only 4, and reducing the total number of BCB directors from 25 to 21.
These changes raised concerns among club officials about the declining influence of Dhaka-based clubs within the BCB. Meanwhile, representatives of 67 of the 76 CCDM clubs attended a meeting organized by different interest groups. They called for the resignation of Nazmul Abedin, accusing him of irregularities in the drafting of the amendments.
Rafiqul Islam Babu, who is leading the movement under the Dhaka Cricket Club Organizers Association, was quoted by Cricbuzz as saying, “What has been done is an insult to all our clubs; which is number one. This is a resolved issue. Sometimes there may be a committee with a director system, which includes a chair, a vice chair, and a secretary.

But the number of people, especially the contribution of our clubs to the Dhaka League, the development of cricket and the production of players, from the time of independence till now, has been insulted in this proposed constitution.”
The veteran club organizer further said that the number of councilors has been reduced from 12 to 4 and that of councilors from 76 to 30, and this is “unacceptable”. Babu warned that if the BCB does not give a valid response to these changes, its clubs will not return to action until the board and its committee resolve their concerns.
Rafiqul Islam Babu said that “what he has done has thrown everyone into controversy. If our clubs do not support his decisions, there is no reason for him to remain on the board. This is a logical demand.”
On the other hand, Lutfur Rahman, head of the club in the Dhaka Premier League, has stressed that they will be forced to boycott cricket if their demands are not met within the stipulated time. He noted: “We have given them three days. If this process stops, our movement will withdraw. Until then, we will continue our movement.”
