Everyone who tells the story of time must deal with the inevitable thinking process, “Why not go back in time and change everything?” The most common thinking is to go back and kill Hitler, thus stopping World War II, but the 1980s sci-fi military classic took a different spin, and asked, “Could one modern aircraft carrier stop the attack on Pearl Harbour?” The last account, A lovely time travel film, about exactly that, with the USS Nimitz, a real ship, stands between the Japanese and Hawaii fleet, but the question arises: though they can stop the attack, should they?

This is the last count

The last account Makes a mystery out of where the Nimitz ended after passing through a strange vortex, although using a re -drawing plane shown revealed, based on Pearl Harbor province and the ships present, they landed before December 7, 1941. How far the question is, but soon the crew disappear before Japane’s attack, which will happen to be united, Japane, happens, happens justly to an attack. As it is clear that they are in the past, the crew slowly starts to share between those who want to stop the Japanese and those who want to find a way home, worrying about changing the timeline.

Would have been simple for The last account To focus on a nuclear -powered aircraft carrier defeating the Japanese Pacific Fleet on its own, Wargamers Wargamers scenario has been playing out for decades, but the film decides to lean into the philosophical play of the situation instead. Kirk Douglas plays the role of Captain Yellen as the strict manager who does not want to change the future, while the Commander Laskey (James Farantino) thinks she is foolish not to try to save as many lives as possible, and both men are shown to be right and wrong as the film progresses. Ultimately, there is a choice.

Time travel adventure before his time

Kirk Douglas is not the only Hollywood legend to appear in The last account; Martin Sheen plays the role of Lasky, a civil contractor who joins the Nimitz for the mission, and acts as the audience delegates to the United States Navy. That’s important, since the film was made with the full co -operation and support of the US armed forces aboard the real Nimitz, along with troops as extra things and a real emergency landing making it in the film. Before A top gunThis was the film that the Navy wanted to use to drive recruitment, and they helped to ensure that every sequence with a jet was beautiful from start to finish, with cinematography that had to have influenced, even a few, the Tony Scott Classic.

Before his time, The last account Not appreciated during its box office run, winning only $ 16 million, and while profitable thanks to a budget of $ 12.5 million and strong VHS sales for years, critics lambasted it. Considered slowly and boringly by no less than Siskel and Ebert, the film became a ultimate success thanks to the focus on Navy War Machines and the time travel plot becomes relevant thanks to thanks to Back to the future Arrived in 1985. Today, it is a cult classic that is notable for the thoughtful attitude toward sci-fiPaired Sheen and Douglas, and of course the planes.
