The story is set in 2001, as Walter’s Spotlight editor “Robby” Robinson (Michael Keaton) directs his correspondents to begin investigating allegations that Boston’s Roman Catholic archdiocese had dealt with the acts of a priest who was sexually abusing children.
To their horror, they discover that it was not an isolated event and the church has been protecting children’s predators for decades. This causes conflict among the magnifier reporters as some of them want to run the story early to prevent any further abuse, while others are definitely waiting until the investigation is complete.
