Sophie Giraud/Hulu; Of utmost importance+2025 is a big year for TV spinoffs with shows like The Handmaid’s Tale, 9-1-1, The Big Bang Theory and more growing their universes on screen.
ABC still Us‘ interested in their promise from a 9-1-1 spinoff moment. The original show has focused on Los Angeles first responders with Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, Oliver Stark, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ryan Guzman, Kenneth Choi a Aisha Hindswhich makes up the main cast since it premiered – originally on Fox – in 2018.
9-1-1: Lone Star was the show’s first attempt to expand by following a New York firefighter (played by Rob Lowe) who moved to Texas while trying to balance his job with issues in his own life. Ronen Rubinstein, Sierra McClain, Jim Parrack, Natacha Karam, Brian Michael Smith, Rafael L. Silva, Julian Works a Gina Torres round out the show.
By 2023, 9-1-1: Lone Star was renewed for its fifth and final season after staying on Fox. Cocreators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk a Tim Minearmeanwhile, their focus shifted to a new location that would deliver another result.

“Tim Minear and I are working on a new spin-off that we’re actually writing, and we’re hoping to air next fall,” Murphy told Variety in October 2024. “Unfortunately, we all love Lone Star, but the financials just didn’t work out. It’s a Disney company that was on the Fox network, and it was never going to work. And we had a long run of it.”
He continued: “So now we’re going to launch a new show in a new city that I can’t name, but it’s fun. And 9-1-1 moved to ABC and suddenly became, in my opinion, the biggest show on Thursday night. They obviously have an appetite for that, so we’re going to give them another one that I really love.”
Meanwhile over at CBS, Country of Fire expands with series about Morena BaccarinMickey’s character. Sheriff Country centers on Mickey as she investigates criminal activity and patrols the streets of her small town while contending with her ex-con father and a mysterious incident involving her wayward daughter.
“I’m really excited about it. I can tell you personally that I am very proud of what we have done so far,” lead and creator of the Fire Country series Max Thieriot just say Us Weekly about the upcoming CBS show in October 2024. “I’m just pieces of space (the writers’ room) right now in the season 1 conversation. But I can tell you that what I’ve seen and the this I know and have been a part of is very exciting.”
Thieriot, who is an executive producer on Country Sheriff, said the show is really coming together, adding, “The excitement level (of the writers’ room) has been very high. So I know when they feel really good about everything and they’re really excited about some things that the room is working on, it’s going to be good. It’s going to be really fun for our yang in a weird way.”
He concluded: “We get to see a different part of Edgewater and get to meet different characters that live in this town and this community that we wouldn’t normally meet. Going to see the other side of town is going to be really fun. It’s going to give us a more complete understanding of this community and this town and these people. I just think it’s going to make the world feel more whole in a weird way.”

‘The Testaments’ (Hulu)
Based on Margaret Atwood‘ follow-up book, Hulu’s The Testaments happens 15 years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale. Reported by Ann Dowdcharacter, three women recounting what happened to Gilead after June (Elisabeth Moss) was taken and it was revealed that Aunt Lydia (Dowd) was Mayday’s birthplace. The trio must secretly gather and smuggle incriminating information about the Gilead regime out of the country to bring down the oppressive society.
The plan is to be had The Testaments premiere after The Handmaid’s Talefinal term ends in 2025.
‘The Madison’ (Paramount Network)
Before Yellowstone ended December 2024, president of ViacomCBS Chris McCarthy confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that a spinoff is starring Matthew McConaughey was in the works. A year later, however, the McConaughey derivative appeared to be dead and replaced by a different derivative called The Madison.
Michelle Pfeiffer stars in the next series side by side Patrick J. Adams, Kurt Russell a Beau Garrett. The Madison is the first spinoff in the Yellowstone franchise set in the present day.
Since Yellowstone debuted in 2018, the story of the Dutton family has had enough potential to inspire six spin-offs (and counting) to add to the Paramount Network roster. Untitled ‘9-1-1’ Spinoff (ABC)
9-1-1, which premiered on Fox in 2018 before transferring to ABC, introduced viewers to the professional and personal lives of Los Angeles first responders. The series is currently in development so it remains unclear where the new iteration would take place. It has been reported that ABC is looking to debut the second 9-1-1 spinoff — after Fox’s 9-1-1: Lone Star — during the 2025-26 television season, more specifically in the autumn of 2025.
‘Sheriff Country’ (CBS)
Country of Firewhich premiered in 2022, follows inmate Bode (Thieriot) as he gets a chance to shorten his prison sentence by volunteering for the California Conservation Camps Program in his hometown of Edgewater. Season 2 expanded that world in an outdoor pilot that focused on law enforcement officers.
Sheriff Country focuses on Sharon’s (Diane Farr) estranged sister Mickey (Baccarin) as she solves crimes in Edgewater. CBC the green spinoff in May 2024 but the series is not expected to premiere until the 2025-2026 season.
Untitled ‘The Big Bang Theory’ Spinoff (Max)
The Big Bang Theory broadcast between 2007 and 2019 and presented Us i Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik a Melissa Rauch as a group of friends that includes scientists and significant others. After the popular sitcom After it ended, CBS aired a prequel focusing on Parson’s character named Sheldon Young Sheldonwhich then paved the way for a show about Sheldon’s older brother aka Georgie and Mandy’s First Wedding.
An untitled spinoff is currently in the works at Max with Brian Posehn, Lauren Lapkus a Kevin Sussman being tapped to headline the show afterwards playing side characters on later seasons oh The Big Bang Theory. No release date has been announced as production continues on the sequel.
‘It’s: Welcome to Derry’ (Max)
The Welcome to Derry series tells the story of the origin of author Stephen King‘s iconic killer clown Pennywise. Bill Skarsgårdwho is also an executive producer on the project, reprising the role of Pennywise after he originally brought the iconic program. character to life in the latest reboot of the film franchise.
Untitled ‘Stranger Things’ spinoff (Netflix)
When creators Ross a Matt Duffer published the fifth and final season oh Stranger Thingsthey suggested that the franchise is technically not ending. No plot information has been released yet but the series would probably exist in the same universe since then Stranger Things previously teased more stories about Hawkins Lab test subjects in term 2.

Based on the Jack Reacher book series by Lee ChildDelivery recipient Alan Ritchson as a self-proclaimed “hobo” and former US Army military policeman who uses his intelligence and abilities to confront dangerous criminals.
The Reacher the universe is expected to expand with spin-offs all around Maria StoneFrances Neagley’s character.
‘Vision Quest’ (Disney+)
WandaVisioninitial success led to the Agatha On previously spinoff Paul Bettany signed for a series focusing on Vision. The upcoming series, which begins filming in 2025, intended to conclude a trilogy for Elizabeth OlsenWanda’s character and Bettany’s Vision.
