2025 is the year that sci-fi movies go fully dark, no stars

Whenever the world darkenedI find myself dive into dark science fiction about the commuting of the murder of humanity by those in power. The most digestible framework for extensive audiences frames this concept as games in science fiction.

You can prevent any number of examples across any number of different media, but I find it interesting that three films come out in 2025 which once again use this concept to tell some potentially challenging and bleak stories.

Two of these happen to be adaptations of Stephen King’s novels he wrote under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, while the third would look darker than even the horror maestro would go.

The running guy

The first of these I’m going to focus on is The running guyAlthough she released later in the year and the novel was later written by King. Why? It has the largest coverage and budget out of these three films. That means this is the most successful film and reach the widest possible audience.

The running guy It was adapted into an Arnold Schwarzenegger vehicle back in 1987, but so far it has been extracted from the source material that a new film version makes sense.

In the new film and the original novel, the main character Ben Richards is chosen to be on a game show where he has to avoid finding out in the world. He turns a poor, desperate man, out of work who wants to get healthcare for his child in the ultimate target with the promise of perfect life, provided for if he can win the game.

It is a pretty obvious metaphor for the capitalism system to turn us against each other so we will not turn the rich on. The new Edgar Wright Film seems to embrace that social commentary but is also sold as an octan -high thrill tour. I love those types of films and I love the Wright Kinetics brand, but hopefully it is ready to take the film to some of the tougher and more shocking places the novel goes.

In particular, finally the novel. Hope you can read and understand – Valid concern these days – And don’t need some warning label about spoilers outside this sentence. In the novel, Ben flies a jet into the games building while flipping the bird in the Elite Schmucks who run the show. It’s dark in the novel, but 9/11 created the belief that no film version would never turn that kind of images into one of heroic defiance.

If Wright’s film goes there and adapts the end of the novel in some identifiable form, it could end as one of the most controversial talking points in films this year. I’m not going to catch my breath that we’ll see that happens, but there’s no denying that the other Stephen King’s movie Coming out this year will be inevitable with his darkest ideas.

The long journey

The long journey is my favorite Stephen King novel after the one for the horrific clown. Fans have been waiting for a movie version of The long journey for decades. After a few stopped efforts, we finally get a deadly game feature film that sacrifices children from all over the country in the name of nationalism.

If that sounds like The hunger games For some of you, it is not surprising to know that the chief director of that franchise, Francis Lawrence, is the one behind the camera for it The long journey. In some way, this Lawrence seems to go for an even more cruel and fatal look at this kind of sci-fi Story.

I love that The long journey is finally turned into a film and looks to be trying his best to honor King’s novel. Mark Hamill Always a presence to be welcomed and cast as the fascist villain is great, I can’t wait to see that performance.

But more than that glee, hopefully The long journey challenges audiences with his cruel paintings of armed soldiers murdering children, and the apathy that this Fascist government allows these children to die for our amusement and a false sense of national pride.

Then that’s the other movie you probably don’t know about that’s the real downer.

Duel the school

Duel the school An independent film written and directed by Todd Wiseman, JR which sets America who is almost in the future where gun management has been dissolved and shot schools rising to unprecedented levels. The government’s response is a competition across the country where children sign up to compete to kill each other in an effort to eliminate the students who are most prone to violence.

Instead of doing anything to curb real gun violence, Duel the school Introducing an American psychotic solution that we will not be surprised to see some people in the real world trying to justify.

Shoot in appropriate black and white, Duel the school is the most bold with this idea out of any of these listed films. It is clear that it is a very angry and depressing attitude on America’s unique issue of rampant school shootings reported through a speculative fiction curtain.

I don’t blame anyone who wouldn’t want to watch these movies, especially The long journey and Duel the schoolBut fiction has always been how I have been able to process and analyze the horrors of the real world in a way that makes sense. If these types of ideas cannot be explored and defined in fiction, then only the real world remains to be released.

2025 is another dark year in what seems an endless attack of dark years. These three films seek to capture a certain anger for our current state and scary future.

I look forward to watching them all, because there is no way that they will make me a fraction as boring as I am when I look out my window.
