Have Oppenheimer’s, Cillian Murphy Big budget films eschewed and choose starring in a small, low budget for the Magdalene laundry called Little things like these.

He is 1985 in Ireland, and Bill Furlong (Murphy) is a coal trader with a loving wife and five daughters. When he sends coal to the local convent, he finds a young pregnant woman, Sarah (Agnes O’Casey), scared and freeze in a shed. Mother of the Many Superior, Mary’s Sister (Emily Watson), explaining that Sara has suffered a childish prank has gone wrong, but Bill is not so sure. As he begins to investigate what’s actually happening, he encounteres pushing back from the community and the church itself.

Little things like these A quiet film that dramatizes a very real tragedy that took place in Ireland in the 19th and 20th centuries. Murphy is excellent as man is caught between his faith and his morals. He wants to help Sarah, but he doesn’t want to go against the religious leaders he has followed all his life. The movie is a bit heavy but if you want a quality play, you can’t beat Little things like these.
