Australia and Melbourne Stars batsman Hilton Cartwright, 32, stunned the cricketing world with his absolutely mammoth six on Saturday, January 4.
Hilton Cartwright broke his huge record with the delivery of 30-year-old all-rounder Tom Rogers during the 23rd match of the 2024-25 Big Bash League (BBL) between Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Star at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Melbourne Stars won the toss and invited the Melbourne Renegades to bat first. The Stars bowling unit did a good job overall and managed to restrict the opposition to 168/7 in 20 overs.
Chasing the target, Stars lost three quick wickets but Ben Duckett steadied the innings with his brilliant fifty while Marcus Stoinis scored a brilliant 48 runs which kept Melbourne Stars in the game.
Glenn Maxwell and Hilton Cartwright took over after that, and with 10 runs required from the last over, the latter hit a monster six and a four to seal a 5-wicket victory.
On the third ball of the 20th, Tom Rogers tried to bowl a yorker outside the off stump but missed by a shade. Cartwright stayed back and hit the ball with full power for a huge six.
The ball went straight into the second level on the long, and seeing the ball fly, even Cartwright was surprised as he formed an “O” in his mouth. The crowd went wild after the impact and it was revealed after a few minutes that Hilton Cartwright had smashed a 121m six.

Ben Duckett was awarded Player of the Match for his 49-ball 67-run knock and, speaking after the match, praised Hilton Cartwright and Glenn Maxwell for their fireworks at the end which helped the Melbourne Stars to victory . He elaborated:
“It was tough at the beginning, he actually got stuck in and wanted to be there at the end. I didn’t go that way, but luckily they got them (Cartwright and Maxwell) in. That’s the strength in depth we have. We know that. We always have it and we wanted to take it deep in. Stoinis played really well, took all the pressure off me.
While discussing Hilton Cartwright’s big sixes, Ben Duckett said the batsman has exceptional skills and practices hitting big maximums in the nets. He stated:
“(On the Cartwright six in the last over and how big it was) Three times further than I connected (smiles). Going in, trying to hit four and six on that wicket, outstanding skills and so grateful they could do that. In the nets, he (Cartwright?) is hitting them really far and he’s very happy that he came out today.”
Ben Duckett spoke more about his batting plans and said he is sticking to his strengths and added that he is not looking at his BBL stint as practice for the Ashes in Australia. He stated:
“Take the ego away, I can’t do some things the big guys do and I try to stick to what I can. Fortunately, I could take the rubbish out. (In the Ashes in Australia) It’s a long way off. Trying to focus. about what’s in front of me (Stars playoff hopes) We played some good cricket, we didn’t do it all tonight but winning Games like this are so important in the competitions, if we keep going, keep that momentum going, we’ll keep going believer.”
