Scott Bagwill ready to go under the knife for it bariatric surgerybut at the last minute, a complication arose that put the procedure in jeopardy.
In Us WeeklyAn exclusive sneak peek of the season 3 finale on Tuesday, December 17th 1,000-lb. Best FriendsScott is in the hospital, about to undergo weight loss surgery, when his heart rate increases.
the surgeon, Charles Proctercalmly explains to Scott that if they can’t control his heart rate, they will need to cancel the operation.
“Scott comes in today, stressed and nervous before surgery has caused his heart rate to shoot up into the 150s,” Procter said in a confessional. “We want to proceed with great care. So we’re going to go ahead and get an EKG 12 up front, we’re also going to get hold of his regular cardiologist and make sure he feels comfortable with us moving forward.”
“The worst case scenario right now is that his heart is beating so fast that it starts to affect his blood pressure, making him what we call hemodynamically unstable,” Procter continued. “If we don’t get to the bottom of what’s going on with the scars, the heartbeat, we’re going to cancel the surgery.”
Scott, who first came to Procter weighing 596 pounds, was visibly emotional at the potential setback, clutching the sides of his bed and appearing to cry.
His mother was sitting by his side, doing her best to calm him down.
“Don’t overreact. Relax. Breathe,” she told him. “It’s your nerves, your anxiety, your ADHD.”
In a separate confession, Scott wondered if it was that simple.
“I’m starting to wonder, ‘Is it just nerves or is this something else that could have a big impact if Dr. Proctor continue the surgery or not?’” he asked.
Although Scott is relatively new to the series, which mainly follows best friends In the margin, Meghana Ashley through their weight loss journeys, he has already made waves among the fans and with his teammates.
In the penultimate episode of the season, which aired on December 10, Ashley and Vanessa bet each other about Scott lying about his eating habits. Earlier in the season, fans called him out for being disrespectful to his mother and for fake crying on the scale.
When the gang went on a trip to the mountains together, Scott and a new cast member Tina it ended in an explosive argument at the dinner table over, of all things, the taste of the meatballs prepared by Scott.
1,000-lb. Best Friends airs on TLC Tuesdays at 10 pm ET.
