It has been 35 years since Pretty woman Hit theaters, but it turns out, it was almost a very different movie!
“The original script had gone to Sundance, it was prestigious, it was considered a serious art, so he was allowed to touch this area of sexuality and money and prostitution,” screen writer Jf lawton have said Vanity fair In 2015. “He gave Hollywood permission to make, and then (director) Garry (Marshall Smart enough, because he has amazing pop instincts, to say, ‘Okay, here’s what people want to see – they want to see the fairy tale.’ “
Julia Roberts and Richard Gere starred in the film, released on March 23, 1990, but several other actors were ready for the parts of Vivian and Edward, including Michelle pfeiffer and To the Pacino.
“They had auditioned Al Pacino, they had auditioned Michelle Pfeiffer, and definitely it would have been a different film if she had been Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer,” explained Lawton. “He may have been closer to the original script and may not have had a happy ending. But the chemistry between Julia and Gere, he is clearly on screen, he was clearly in auditions. You can’t really see how he could end in any other way, because they just illuminate each other.”
Eventually, the film Edward, a wealthy businessman, followed hiring (and subsequently collapsed for) Vivian, a prostitute.
